Epcot

EPCOT will be an experimental prototype community of tomorrow that will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.

Walt Disney had a wonderful dream about the future. A place, where people from different nations, would come together and share information and technology (sounds an awful lot like the internet to me). Unfortunately, this dream wasn't quite feesable. However they did find a way to incorporate both concepts.

Two worlds. One used to expore your history and future, technology, and inner-self. The other, to explore new worlds, and see how other people experience life in their part of the world.

Epcot is a beautiful and spacious park. I love how open this place is, where walkways have space to accomidate masses even on the most bussiest of days.

The Prominade that encircles the lagoon is 1.3 miles long.

Opened October 1, 1982.

The acronym EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow was coined by Walt Disney back in 1966.

Cost nearly $1 billion to build.

Three times the size of the Magic Kingdom (approximately 300 acres)

World Showcase doesn't typically open until 11 AM. So lines for attractions such as Spaceship Earth, Body Wars, and Ellen's Energy Adventure will probably be longer for the first few hours of the day. Plan accordingly.

This is the largest park in Walt Disney World. Make sure you have your walking shoes.

Don't try to see all of Epcot in one day. It's not possible. So take your time in all the pavillions. There is so much to see and do, and just running through it, you will miss alot.

When Future World closes in the evening, not all of it closes. You will end up finding that the major attractions are still open and lines for these attractions will be shorter as everyone is out in the World Showcase.

In the evening Extra Magic Hours, I followed the crowd out after the fireworks, but hopped on Spaceship Earth, where I had a car to myself. When I got off, I was able to walk onto pretty much any ride in Future World and World Showcase as most the masses had left except those of us utilizing the Extra Magic Hours.
