The Magic Kingdom is built one story up because Walt Disney decided he didn't like it when cast members were seen out of place walking from place to place. So the Magic Kingdom is built on top of a network of tunnels called Utilidoors to allow free movement for all castmembers. So as you're walking through the park, you're actually on the second floor.
The layout for the Magic Kingdom is a center with a hub. The hub is Cinderella's Castle. You can see it from anywhere in the park, so you know where you are at all times.
The utilidoors underneath the Magic Kingdom span 9 acres, containing transportation, costuming, computer controls, and garbage collection
The park itself is 107 acres
There are over 1,100 audio animatronics throughout the Magic Kingdom
Since this park is one of the favorites of youngsters, mid-day will be crowded. Arrive early and stay late. If you are staying at one of the Disney Hotels, slip back for a quick dip in the pool during mid-day. Then come back and close the park.
Take advantage of Extra Magic Hours (for resort guests), and you will be able to hit all the major attractions you want.
If you walk up to the TTC and there is a long line for the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, take the ride through the resorts. It will make 2 stops on it's way to the Magic Kingdom, but you will almost be garunteed a seat. The same thing applies for leaving the park, when the masses head for the monorail to the TTC, take the one through the resorts. You'll have one short stop in the Contemporary, and then off to the TTC and back to your car or bus.
You can make breakfast reservations in the park for before the park opens. They will let you in, and you can take pictures with no crowds in the way.
